Candice Symone Johnson April’s Dancer of the Month

Candice Symone discovered her passion for dance early.  At the age of 16, she decided to seriously pursue dance after landing a position as a dancer for Aretha Franklin.  This inspired her to extend her knowledge of movement and performance. Candice began studying Theatre, Ballet, Jazz, Modern/Contemporary, African, and Authentic Shaolin Martial Arts.

She performed with Detroit Windsor Dance Academy’s Pre-Professional Company, which allowed her the opportunity to gain first-hand experience. Entering high school, she joined Cass Tech High School’s Dance Workshop and the All-City Dance Company in which she performed nationally and internationally until graduation. She performed as a principal dancer in productions such as T.J. Hemphill’s Perilous Times and Lisa McCall Productions. She is currently a member of Big Red Dance Company.
