Have you met Lydia Alexis Porter?!?!? Because she’s amazing!
Lydia Alexis Porter graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dance Education in May 2010. She is K12 certified and is currently the dance instructor at Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts Elementary School, where she recently choreographed a piece for her students to dance for Quincy Jones at the Music Hall in Detroit. Lydia has studied ballet (pointe), modern, jazz, tap, and African Dance at Detroit Dance Center under the guidance of Carol Morisseau from 1989 – 2002. She excelled to a level to where she taught classes at the Institution and that began her teaching career. Lydia has traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina where she studied the Argentine Tango, performed as a principal dancer in the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, and took the opportunity of a lifetime to perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra also as a principal dancer
She also participated in the Miss Michigan USA Competition holding the title of Miss Belle Isle and was asked to choreograph for future competitions Lydia has been a proud dancer for Big Red Wall and Red Pumps since March 2012 and is currently the leader of the dance ministry at her church. She is very versatile with multiple dance styles and she is always prepared to take on the responsibility of being a great asset to others, using her choreography and dance skills to her fullest potential. Lydia plans to go back to school to get her Masters in Occupational Therapy for Children (Kinesiology). I dance my way through life… it’s the only way to execute my feelings.
