Red’s off to Brazil

Hello my amazing support system!

For the past 2 years, I have been the dance instructor at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences. Recently, I was chosen to attend with University of Detroit Mercy as a K-12 educator to assist with administering US Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad (GPA) that will take us to Northeast Brazil. I was the only performing art educator asks to attend.

The program, African Contributions and Contemporary Issues in Northeast Brazil: A Curriculum Development Project Integrating Social Sciences and the Arts, will take place in Sao Luis, Maranhao, and Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The overall goal of this project is to provide a 4-week collaborative learning experience in Brazil that gives us multiple perspectives of the African-American experience through scholarly research and dialogue so as to inform learning, build and enhance curricular resources, and internationalize curricula in meaningful and measurable ways. As a result, we will develop thematic units and projects that can be integrated in their schools and institutions, as well as shared with audiences nationwide.

The reason I am contacting you is a participant cost-sharing is encouraged by Fulbright-Hays and, for the purpose of the UDM GPA is set at $1,500 USD per participant. This fee is due on February 1, 2016.  This amount is doable with help from my friends and family. If you can assist me with raising this amount by January 31, 2016 it will help with my continuous growth as an educator.

The rest of the donations will be used for food and living expense while I am away.  I will be away for 4 weeks in a place that I am unfamiliar with and want to make sure all unexpected are accounted for.

My total goal is 2,500 by June 1, 2016.

It would be a great blessing if you are able to contribute to this new journey in my life. Educator and the youth has become a strong drive in my life, as well as the city of Detroit. It was an amazing honor to be chosen to attend with professor and other educators in the Metro-Detroit area. With your help; I will be contributing in building a new curriculum that will be used around the Metro-Detroit Area.

Also, sharing my gofundme is a great way to support if you are unable to contribute yourself.

Thank you,
